3 Tips for a Successful Hardscape Installation

Outdoor hardscapes can be a valuable addition to your home or property. According to Inman.com, an updated landscape/hardscape can increase the value of your home by as much as 15%. These updates often involve making a sizable investment in your property, so it’s important to choose the right landscape contractor.

When choosing a landscape company to do your hardscape work there are a few things to keep in mind. How many years of experience do the installers have? What type of product is best for my property? Is the base under the pavers important? Let’s look at each of these criteria in more detail:

Experienced Installers

You can have the best design and choose the best products, but if the installer is not experienced then the project could be your worst nightmare. Here at Focal Pointe, our installers have 10+ years of experience installing hardscapes (we have the pictures to prove it). Our installers have a passion for hardscape and want you to enjoy the finished product for years to come.

Quality Products

There are many product choices from natural stone, manufactured stone, to manufactured stone made to look like natural stone. Product choice is important – you want to protect your investment by selecting quality products that won’t fail after a few years. Choosing a product with a proven track record is imperative. With so many choices available, picking the right materials can be a little overwhelming. Focal Pointe will help you choose high-quality products that fit your taste and your budget.

It’s All About the Base

What comes with an experienced installer is a proper base layer for your paver patio, wall, or stairs. We recommend that you have a minimum of 4-6” of CA6 stone followed by an inch of bedding sand for paver patios and stairs. For retaining walls, we recommend a minimum of 4-6” of CA6 stone, 12-18” of ¾” stone backfill behind walls with a drain tile. We will compact your subgrade (the soil below your base stone) followed by 2-3” lifts of your CA6 stone. This will prevent your new patio or wall from settling.
